FLORA

The vegetation of the region is characterized by its conservation and variety of the species. Five vegetation formations stand out:

l. - Tree woods cover an area of 44% of the island.

2. - Shrubby vegetation is found along the cost.

3.- Herbaceous formations are found near freshwater dams, rivers, streams and swamps.

4.-vegetation complexes.

5.-Secondary vegetation.

The greatest diversity of plant species is found in the southern plain, which owns more than 556 species of plants and 13 species of ferns.

In the Keys, sandy shoreline vegetation and mangroves prevail.
